Risk. - Parker, 1957

My edition of Risk from 1984

Risk is one of the classic board games from my era. Choose a colour and then, using a combination of territory cards and dice rolls, lay out your armies and aim for world domination!

The board on the right is circa 1985 and the one I played on the most when I was growing up.

I always liked South America...

A great game for it's time, somewhat stymied by the dice-laden approach to fighting.
After playing this game incessantly for so long, I felt the need to seek out a similar type of game that did not rely so heavily on dice rolls.

And would you believe it? I found one.

Interestingly, my edition of the game was manufactured in FRANCE. It's interesting when I look at where all my old board games were manufactured, they were all done so in Europe.

On the left here, you can see the inside of my original edition of the game. It still had plastic pieces, but they were cylindrical in shape. A bit like very tiny versions of 'Rama'! Unfortunately there is no Cylindrical Sea inside them though.

I particularly like the slightly amusing opening lines of the instructions!
